Description

Diving day tour in Silfra ravine in Þingvellir National Park in Iceland

Trip Difficulty: 4 out of 5 possible. Rated: Demanding, PADI® license required.
Day Tour: Operated from Reykjavík and Þingvellir.

This world class dive tour includes two dives in Silfra ravine, one of Iceland’s best-kept secrets. It is situated in the heart of Þingvellir National Park, the founding place of the world’s oldest parliament and a UNESCO world heritage site. Silfra is an otherworldly scene located in the lava field directly on top of the continental rift valley between America and Europe.

Experience the weightless gliding across Iceland's very own clear glacier waters. The slow current gives one a perfect pace to explore this beautiful area. The fresh water visibility is an unmatched specimen, so wide and long that sometimes it is only limited by the density of the water itself. Depth varies from 10 to 40 meters. Our dive depth is limited to 18 meters by park regulations.

PLEASE NOTE: In the winter time if the temperature falls below -0°C we will only do one extended dive. This is because the dive equipment will freeze up when we exit the water.

You can add a PADI Dry suit certification for 54.500 ISK.
Please contact our sales department for further information about dry suit certification.

This is without question one of the best dive tours the world has to offer. If you are an keen diver, make sure not to miss it!

Bad eyesight? Since you are wearing a snorkeling / dive mask to see underwater there can be nothing in the way of the seal to keep them from filling up with water. That is, you can not wear glasses underneath the mask. You will have to go without them, wear eye lenses or bring your own mask with prescription.

Requirement: Open Water certification and Dry suit certification from any internationally recognised dive agency, For example PADI, SSI, CMAS, NAUI etc.

Driving directions: If you are meeting us on location, the meeting point is on the Silfra car park, located in Thingvellir national park. For GPS: 64°15’23.508″N 21°6’58.676″W

Deep into The Blue

Þingvellir National park is one of Icelands most important historical and geographical sites, and thus it has been protected by law since 1928. Since 2004 Þingvellir has become part of the UNESCO world heritage list. The park is located approximately 40 km north east of Reykjavik and is home to the lake Þingvallavatn.

Silfra Fissure is a narrow canyon in the lava field located between the continents of America and Europe. The water in Silfra is a mixture of ground water from the surrounding area and melt water fromLangjökull glacier in the highlands. It takes the glacial water decades to filter through the massive lava field before it enters the fissure. This makes the water in Silfra one of the purest and clearest in the world, the underwater visibility, in the heavenly blue water, is normally 70-80 meters, better than anywhere else in the world.
