Private Walking Tour of Bergen One-day tour
Our partner: I Love Bergen
Our partner: I Love Bergen
Bergen is the second-largest city in Norway and is full of history. It was Scandinavia's first commercial city and an important place for trade from the 11th century. Today, Bergen is charming, cool, and is regularly voted the most beautiful city in Norway.
I'm Emma - your guide. I moved to Bergen five years ago from Australia and I have adjusted to living here wonderfully. I have been working as a professional tour leader ever since moving here, but when I'm home I enjoy showing you my city. We will not just cover history, but I'll provide an insight into what it's like to live in Bergen. We'll go to secret spots I've discovered since moving here as well!
The tour is completely customised according to your interests, making each tour unique.
If you are taking the Hurtigruten, I will adjust my tour to fit within the ship times and we'll explore the area close to the terminal.

I will take you through Bergen's UNESCO World Heritage Site, Bryggen. I will tell you not just about the historical significance of the site, but also what it was like to live here.
We'll peek inside the windows of the Bryggens Museum to see where the first warehouses of Bergen were built in the 11th century.
St. Mary's Church is the oldest building in Bergen, built in the 12th century. We will make a stop there to see this gorgeous historic site.
The old Bergen Fortress was first built in the 11th century and has been expanding ever since. It has been the site of the Norwegian capital, a Danish fortress, a Swedish fortress, overtaken by German soldiers during World War II, and is now a historic site and concert ground. We'll explore the history of this beautiful fortress.
If time permits, we'll make our way to Sandviken to walk amongst the old fishermen's homes and warehouses on what is believed to be the oldest quay in Norway.
We'll walk through the old part of Bergen, where not much has changed since the area was built after the fire of 1702. One of these attractions is Korskirken, a historic church that can be traced back to the 12th century (but has been rebuilt after every fire...)
We will walk along the charming peninsula of Nordnes, a secret place in Bergen and popular local hangout. We will wander through 17th century-alleys, admiring the picturesque timber homes that were once the cheapest in the city - but are now the most expensive! I'll show you local shops while explaining the way of life here in Bergen both in the past and present.
We'll walk through the Bergen fish market, where fish has been sold for hundreds of years. I'll explain how we prepare and eat different seafood products in Norway.
