Westman Islands - Bjarnarey Puffin Island One-day tour Best seller

Description

The tour starts at our base in Heimaey, Westman Islands where you
will meet the team and start prepping for the boat ride. You will get to
know our gear and we will go over technique and more. Our boat is
located a short car ride away and after we have loaded the gear onto the
boat we will start our journey to Bjarnarey island. Next is the tricky
ascension up “the staples” on islands west side. Once we are atop the
island, we will sit down at our base, the hut, get some snacks and
drinks and prepare for the next part of the expedition.

A hike across the island will take us to the east cliff where the
highlight of the tour takes place. From there, the descension into the
cliff starts. A safety line is connected to fixed bolts the whole way
and you will be attached to that line at all time while you tiptoe on
the ledges, through Guillimot eggs, across the giant cliff. You will be
in close proximity to a few bird species including the Puffin, the
Guillemot (Common Murre), the Kittiwake and the Fulmar. At the end of
the trail you will be pulled up the last 20 meters. Some well deserved
food will wait for us at the hut where we will have a nice moment
together at the dinner table with a stunning view of Heimaey.

A short hike away is the hill on Bjarnarey where the Puffin nests in
the ground and a magnificent view of Eyjafjallajökull glacier and the
surrounding island.

What to bring

Dress according to weather conditions. You will want to have good shoes for the hike and some good outdoor clothing.
