Meet us at the Old Harbour in Reykjavík where you will exchange your pre-paid voucher for boarding tickets. The adventure starts as soon as you set foot on board and grows as you touch the ground across the sea. Your guide will take you on a journey onto the mysterious and uninhabited island, free from any light pollution where the conditions for aurora spotting are optimal. Explore the unique landscape, artwork and buildings of Viðey as we make our way on top of the hill where you will get an incredible view of Reykjavík.
The northern lights are a natural phenomenon that occur when collisions between electrically charged particles from the sun enter earth's atmosphere. They can only be seen in the northern hemisphere between September and April and are best displayed under dark, clear skies. If the conditions are just right, they will emit the most incredible light show you will ever witness!
Enjoy a warm cup of coffee or hot chocolate while your expert guide finds the best view on the island. Capturing the lights can be a bit tricky, but our guides are experienced photographers and available to assist you with finding the best spot, setting your gear up and even helping you with camera settings. Taking photos of the art work or buildings of the island with the lights in the background adds that something special to your pictures - it could be anything from the stunning blue light of the Imagine Peace Tower, the oldest stone building in Iceland or even yourself!
If you don’t have a camera with you, don’t worry, we’ll teach you some tricks on how to take photos of the auroras with your phone. Even if you’re not interested in photography at all, you can still enjoy the incredible scenery and views from the island. Most importantly, make sure to take in the moment and be in the present!
