DAY 2

Our guide meets the group at Hotel Klettur at 8:45 am. We drive northwards via the tunnel of Hvalfjördur to Borgarnes and Skagafjördur, the valley of horses. A visit to the folk museum of Glaumbær (entrance included), an ancient farm with a turf roof, before continuing via highlands, Öxnadalsheidi, to the capital of the north of Iceland, Akureyri. Overnight and dinner at Hotel KEA, Akureyri, or similar.

DAY 3
Friday: Akureyri – Godafoss – Mývatn – Akureyri

We stop by the waterfall of Godafoss on our way to Mývatn. The area around Mývatn consists of fields of lava, volcanoes and mountains. Here you can observe interesting lava formations at

Dimmuborgir, pseudocraters and underwater caves, filled with geothermal water at Grjótagjá and when visiting Námaskard we will see hissing steam plumes and boiling sulfur- and mudholes.

We stop by Jardbödin, the Blue Lagoon of the North, where there is possibility of bathing and eating lunch. Entrance is not included but can be booked beforehand via the agency.

At 17:00 optional whale-watching tour from Akureyri. Ticket is not included but can be booked beforehand via the agency.

DAY 4
Saturday: Akureyri – Dettifoss – Mödrudalsöræfi – Egilsstadir – Breiddalsvik

We leave Akureyri and start the day by visiting Dettifoss, one of Europe’s biggest waterfalls. After that we drive across highlands Mödrudalsöræfi, via town of Egilsstadir, towards the sparsely populated and very beautiful Eastfjords, with its small fishing villages and magnificent mountains.

Overnight and dinner at Hotel Bláfell, Breiddalsvik, or similar.

DAY 5
Sunday: Breiddalsvik – Jökulsárlón – Skaftafell – Núpar

Driving along the Eastfjord’s dramatic coastline, passing Djúpivogur and Höfn. Not far from Höfn is glacier lagoon Jökulsárlón where you can take a boat trip on an amphibian in between the floating icebergs. Boat tour is not included but can be booked via the agency. The bus trip continues further on to National park Skaftafell, a beautiful, green oasis at the root of glacier Öræfajökull, where Iceland’s highest point can be found (Hvannadalshnúkur, 2119 m).

DAY 6
Monday: Núpar – Vik – Reynisfjara – Skógar – Selfoss

We start the day by driving past lavafields of Eldhraun and observing the black glacial deposits at Mýrdalssandur. We pass by Vík and stop by the black lavasand beach of Reynisfjara, known for its colony of puffins and unusual rock formations. From Reynisfjara you can view the impressing promontory Dyrhólaey, where the sea has craved a huge hole through the rock. Next, we stop at the two waterfalls, Skógafoss and Seljalandsfoss, and end our day with a visit to LAVA; Iceland volcano and earthquake center in Hvolsvöllur. Entrance is included. Thereafter we continue past Hella towards Selfoss, where we will spend the night. Optional horseback riding tour in the evening.

DAY 7
Tuesday: Gullfoss – Geysir – Þingvellir – Reykjavík.

First visit of the day is to the majestic Gullfoss, one of Iceland’s most beautiful waterfalls. Next stop is at the geothermal area around Geysir, where we experience the active geyser Strokkur that erupts a high column of boiling hot water, every five minutes. It truly is a fascinating phenomena. Continuing to the national park of Þingvellir, where the oldest parliament still in function was founded. From Þingvellir we drive on to Reykjavik.
