Through the vast grasslands that divide the glacier-covered peaks of Eyjafjallajökull from the ill-tempered waters of the Atlantic, we journey the Ring Road to the Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss waterfalls—taking time to walk behind the former—and enjoy panoramic views of the most remote, interior regions of the Icelandic Highlands, where ribbons of ash-colored ice flow from the hillsides. We will see the magnificent Sólheimajökull glacier, ponder the majestic basalt columns at Reynisfjara, and stroll along the spirited black-sand beaches of Dyrhólaey, concluding our journey in the quant and quiet village of Vik.
