Glacier Lagoon (Jökulsárlón) Tour One-day tour

Our partner: BusTravel Iceland

Description

The Glacier lagoon is one of the longer day tours in the BusTravel Iceland catalogue but it is most certainly worth the drive. Located on the south east part of the island the Glacier Lagoon is a stunning force of nature which is fed from the largest glacier in Iceland, Vatnajökull.

As the ice breaks away from the melting glacier it drifts through the lagoon and towards the ocean which creates a very unique landscape that is constantly moving and shifting. We will also have some time during the drive to visit additional famous stops on the south coast including the mysterious Seljalandsfoss waterfall that you can walk behind.

Itinerary

1. Stop at Hvolsvöllur 15 minutes. A small breakfast stop is made at a gas station in Hvolsvöllur. This stop is aimed to get a small breakfast if needed and to use the bathroom before heading to the first attraction of the tour.

 2. Stop somewhere to get some rest 40 minutes. Gaze the Skaftafell surroundings and get lunch if you're hungry! Freysnes is surrounded by mountains, glaciers and rests of glacier bursts. On this stop you can either enjoy the fantastic views or get some food in the restaurant.

3. Stop at Glacier Lagoon and Diamond Beach 90 minutes. So much ice! Glacier Lagoon is the largest and the deepest glacier lagoon in Iceland, located in the south east part of Iceland. The lagoon branches from Breiðamerkurjökull, an outlet glacier of the Vatnajokull glacier the largest glacier in Europe.

Diamond Beach displays the contrast between black sand and chunks of ice which get washed up from the Glacier Lagoon.

In summer it is possible to take a approx. 30 minutes boat ride on the lagoon. You can purchase it on the bus for ISK 5000 per person.

 4. Stop in Vík í Mýrdal 45 minutes. Welcome to the lovely village of Vík! With only just about 320 inhabitants does Vík have a lot to offer. You can either have some dinner in one of the restaurants or in summer when it's still bright at this time of day, take a short walk to the beach to have a look at the famous Reynisdrangar.

5. Stop at Seljalandsfoss Waterfall 20 minutes. Did you ever stand behind a waterfall? Give it a try at Seljalandsfoss! This magnificent waterfall is 66 meters high and let's you even walk around it. But be careful: You might be soaked afterwards. On a good day you will also be seeing the Westman Islands or Vestmannaeyjar from here.

SECRET STOP The secret stop at some amazing destination. This stop is a secret and varies from tour to tour. We do neither know when it will happen and where so it stays a total secret ;-)
