Reindeer Farm and Wild Forests One-day tour

Our partner: Lapland Welcome Ltd

Description

Visit a local reindeer farm and introduce yourself to the lives of reindeer herders. Meet wild and trained safari reindeers. See old log buildings where herders have lived for generations. This activity offers great possibilities for taking photos and experiencing authentic wilderness life. You can also try some reindeer lasso throwing at the farm if you like.

Afterwards we go searching “wild reindeer” and other animals and birds in the forest. With some luck we might see a moose, fox or lynx or wild birds on a wilderness lake. Light lunch is offered during the safari. Anyway you will see the large forests and feel the spirit of the wilds.

Reindeer are an inseparable part of Lapland’s nature. Reindeer herding as a way of life – in its current form – is at least 500 years old. Reindeers are kind obedient animals, if you can train them first with right skills.

Reindeer have been used for carrying and pulling burdens since the beginning of the Common Era. Reindeer are extremely strong as these can carry heavy loads. These have sharp hooves, which enable them to walk on snow and ice. Reindeer can shed their antlers during the winter and new antlers grow in their place.

There are about 200 000 reindeer in Finland.
