Of course, the essence of the trip is to relax and enjoy the Faroe Islands from the sea, but why not combine this with some fishing "old style"?
No prior experience is needed. The crew will educate and assist. The trip ends with a meal, prepared from the catch.
A fishing spot ticket is for one of the 10 fishing spots available.
Additional tickets can be purchased for guests that share the fishing spot or just want to tag along.
The crew will offer coffee, the and pastry. After the fishing, the cook will prepare a meal from the catch.
Warm clothes. Preferably rainwear for the outer layer, as it protects you from the wind as well as rain and sea spray. Sensible watertight shoes. Warm headwear. Gloves.
Toilets are below deck and require climbing a short ship's ladder.
Setting sail and experiencing the unique feeling of travel by wind alone is something everybody must enjoy at least once. Still, you have to accept the possibility that the sails can not be set due to the day's sailing conditions. Also the time available may prevent us from setting sails.
We want to make The Norðlýsið available to as many guests as possible, The scheduled trips, available for individuals, are a part of this effort. However, the ship has to function as a business to ensure funds for maintenance and repairs. Therefore we have to insist on a minimum of eight guests for the scheduled trips with individual bookings. It may be postponed or cancelled if your trip has fewer than eight guests. We will make sure that you are informed twenty-four hours before the event so that you can make alternative plans.
On this trip we will stop for an hour or so to engage in fishing with the same equipment that the Faroese fisherman used when the ship was a fishing vessel in it's glorious past. The equipent is called "Snøri" (snoeri) and is surprisingly easy to manage. When a larger fish is on the hook, the retrieval is considerably easier than using a fishing rod.
The crew will prepare a meal for you. Preferably using some of the catch ;-) The meal can be enjoyed on deck or at the handcrafted table in our cosy forecastle.
You will be offered to taste our famous OKKARA Norðlýsið brown ale beer with the meal. The ship also offers white wine and non-alcoholic beverages.
On the trip back to Tórshavn the ship will offer coffee, tea and local pastry.
