Copenhagen – Kronborg – Roskilde – North West Zealand

Copenhagen – Kronborg – Roskilde – North West Zealand

The tour begins by driving north along the beautiful coastline towards Helsingør to see Kronborg castle – home of Hamlet. Kronborg is a beautiful and amazing renaissance castle and is on the UNESCO world of heritage list. After Kronborg we continue driving towards Roskilde. Roskilde is situated just next to Roskilde Fjord which is the place where original Viking ships has been found. You will see these Viking ships at the Viking ship museum and before leaving Roskilde we will visit Roskilde Cathedral where 1000 years of history are gathered and where 40 kings and queens are buried. Roskilde Cathedral is also on the UNESCO world of heritage list. We will drive to a hotel situated with a beautiful view to Holbæk Fjord where we will stay the night.

North West Zealand – Aarhus in Jutland peninsula

The tour continues to Aarhus by catching the ferry from Odden. Aarhus is the second biggest city in Denmark and was the European capital of culture in 2017. In Aarhus we will visit the old town which is an open-air museum with centuries-old timbered houses. After the old town we will have a guided tour of Aarhus. We will see the latin quarter and Aarhus cathedral and Marselisborg palace. The palace belongs to the royal family and is used by the queen Margrethe II from time to time. All depending if the queen is there we can get pretty close to the castle. The castle is surrounded by a beautiful forest. We will see Moesgaard and Aros museums from the outside. After check-in at Radisson Blu Hotel or similar you will have the afternoon on your own to go shopping, visit a museum or just relaxing.

DAY 4
Aarhus - Skagen

Aarhus - Skagen

The day begins by driving to the most northern place in Denmark – Skagen. Just before Skagen we will visit Raabjerg Mile which is the largest moving dune in Northern Europe. We continue to Skagen Hotel or similar where we will stay for the night. You will have the day at Skagen on your own. You can visit Ancher´s house (the world famous painter) where they lived. You can also visit Skagens museum where you among others will see the amazing paintings of the famous Skagen painters. You can walk around the town and see the characteristic yellow houses Skagen is very famous for or you can take a walk to the harbor which is full of life. You definitely have to make a stop at the very top of Denmark where the two sea´s Skagerrak and Kattegat meet. It is on this beach the painters has been inspired to many of their paintings.

DAY 5
Skagen – Hvide Sande - Jelling – Ribe

After breakfast the tour continues driving towards Jelling. We experience the western side of Jutland and enjoy the great view over the Atlantic Ocean.

Jelling is home to the Viking kings. Jelling is on the UNESCO world of heritage list. Here you will see the area where Gorm the old and Harald Bluetooth lived. Gorm The old and his wife Thyra´s mounds and an old church lying between them. Just next to the church you will see the famous rune stone. You will also visit The Experience center where you will have an exciting voyage from the stories that were told to the life as a Viking and a warrior, the path to Valhalla as well as the transition to Christianity. After Jelling we continue to Ribe – the oldest town in Denmark - where we will have a walking tour. You will check-in at Hotel Dagmar or similar after the walking tour.

Ribe – Jelling - Egeskov – South of Funen

After breakfast you´ll have time to walk a little in the town of Ribe. At 09:30 we continue driving towards Jelling. Jelling is home to the Viking kings. Jelling is on the UNESCO world of heritage list. Here you will see the area where Gorm the old and Harald Bluetooth lived. After Jelling we continue to the beautiful the island of Funen towards the 460 years old Egeskov castle which is Europe´s best preserved renaissance water castle. Egeskov is named “Best European historic garden 2012” and by CNN Travel as one of the 12 most fabulous gardens in the world. After the visit at Egeskov Castle we´ll check-in at Gammel Avernæs Hotel or similar in the south of Funen. 


DAY 7
South of Funen – Odense – Stevns – Copenhagen

South of Funen – Odense – Stevns – Copenhagen

After breakfast we will drive towards Odense where the world famous fairytale writer Hans Christian Andersen was born in 1805. We will visit the house where he was born and other places that was important to him. After lunch we continue driving towards the island of Zealand where Copenhagen is situated. The islands of Zealand and Funen are connected by one of the longest suspension bridges in the world. While passing it you will have an excellent view as you drive about 65 meters up high. We´ll drive towards the amazing Stevns Klint. This is about 15 km. long fossil-rich coastal white chalk cliff and is on the UNESCO world of heritage list. We will be back in Copenhagen around 17:30
